We had an interesting talk on the way home from rehearsal today.
a lot of our lyrics is about the fact that we live in a fallen world and that we as humans are incomplete.
even though everybody would agree that it is true the question that came up was about if the lyrics focused to much on this and to little on the joy that is in life wich also is very true.
It is an interesting point. We don’t have so many “happy” songs in Mammuth. I could only think of one, “reflecting light”.i write most of the lyrics in the band and I actually don’t know why it is that way. Maybe the music invites more to sadness then happiness.
A danger that came up is that focusing on the incompletness of man might put burdens on people instead of lifting them up, which always have been our goal.
When I think about it i realize that we have a lyric about this on Embraced EP.
I’ll leave you tonight with that lyric, and I will go and try to write a happier lyric for “harder faster” in the warm breeze of a swedish summernight…! 😉
Listen to the song Graceland on our myspace: HERE
Graceland
Full of dirt I am and I know that I’ll never can be like you
still I try and I fail what am supposed to do
how can I love why can’t I love just like you
I want to love like youT
his world is selfish and I’m drawn to it
I can’t resist the power or can I? help me!
I’m trying to be a light
be a mirror of your love but the darkness…
what’s my light to that?
Welcome to Graceland this is your home
Welcome to Graceland Lay down to rest(rest in Peace)
(Can’t feel at) Home in this world want to know why we’re here
why we have to face the pain of fear
every day all I see is me, me, me,
I want to break out but I’m part of it…
I want to change the way I live
Let your grace be real to me
let me know that you love me despite what I do
Want to know that it’s true
let me rest let me rest in your love
let me rest in your grace let me rest in Peace
Welcome to Graceland This is your home
Welcome to Graceland
Lay down to rest(rest in Peace)
For all your lies and your big mistakes
For all your pride and your selfishness
For those you didn’t help for those you turned away
For all your sins for all your hate
THERE’S GRACE
Hi,
I just want to say that your music was always uplifting to me. I first got to know you by watching a videorecording of your life gig at Freakstock Germany 2004. You were talking a lot about your brokenness and hard experiences. I could relate to it very much cause I have had similiar experiences.
So I responded very much to the music.
And then I saw you on Rock on the Rock, Italy. I liked the gig as well. You were very honest and vulnerable on stage.
And I must say that you have some very great lyrics. The lyrics of “Don’t be afraid” and “Shine” speak right to my heart! To only name some examples.
Go on with your great music and if you like write some happy songs… but stay who you are!
God bless you so much!
Jocky, Munich, Germany
Thank you Jocky!
It means a lot for us to hear that our music actually can be a blessing for someone. That’s without question the main reason for mammuths existence.
Thank you for right words in right time!
I think you’re going to like the new album…
/Daniel
Thanks for your reply!
That’s what I really like in the kingdom of God. That when we are blessed by someone that it’s again a blessing for those who have blessed us when they hear that they have been a blessing 🙂
In that way: I like to be blessed!
I experienced this for many times in both directions.
I always prefer music that sounds not only cool but has some great lyrics too.
God bless you so much for your ministry. Don’t let anyone disappoint you or drag you away from your way of ministry. Our ministry is not only in what we say or do, but our whole life is the ministry. It will have an output too what you experienced with God in your whole life, not only what you do just in the moment, if it seems just now an annoited moment. The hard things we went through with the Lord are as important as the things of obvious glory and blessing!
Hard times and glory are connected!
So go on being yourselve and do/ be what the Lord has given to you…
